A short explanation of the artist responsible for this work.

Their influences come from individuals such as Banksy who seek to spread a message through their art. Raising awareness and giving others assistance has always been one of their passions and desires. The piece itself is one that the Clemente believed would motivate others like himself to think of their media consumptions and their uses.

In terms of style, the young illustrator and graphic designer has a major influence from eastern culture, mainly Japanese. His favourite and most influential illustrator is a man by the name of Akira Toriyama. He based his “Evil Figure” on a tyrant from one of his most influential work. This tyrant is a great representation of the influence the internet could have on an individual as many who worked for him turned out for the worse.

Internet Consumption

Artist Statement

The piece that has been created here is to represent what the internet has done and its role on our society in the modern area. The internet and social media play a big role in everything we do as a society. The users of social media are so immersed and trapped in their social media apps they fail to see the changes around and how the actual app changes them. This piece was the visual representation of such progress. The initial start we have us the user scrolling aimlessly through our social medias be it snapchat, Instagram and Facebook. Upon our scrolling we lose track of time and ourselves as the first glitch occurs, we start to feel consumed and eventually the internet has got a hold of us. We are consumed after the second phase showing the “evil figure” smile maniacally. After we return, we are no longer the same individuals we were as we’ve been manipulated by the internet and with said manipulation our views and sometimes morals get changed sometimes for the better but in this case, it was for the worst. This piece is to grant awareness to us as user to be cautious od the amount of time we spend on the internet and let alone the amount of time we spend consuming negative information as it could potentially destroy and manipulate us without our knowledge and awareness.
